About the Physicians

Timothy Wirt, M.D., raised in Lansing, Michigan, joined the Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery, P.C. in 1980 after completing his surgical internship and his neurosurgical residency at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He earned his M.D. degree in 1974 from the University of Michigan. Dr. Wirt became a certified member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1982 and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1984.

Donn Turner, M.D., a native of Colorado, came to the Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery, P.C. in 1984. He received his M.D. degree in 1978 from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Iowa in 1984. Dr. Turner was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1986 and became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1988.

Hans Coester, M.D., born and raised in Iowa, joined the Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery, P.C. in 1992. Dr. Coester received his M.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1986. During 1991-1992, he served as the chief neurosurgical resident at the University of Michigan, where he completed his neurosurgical residency. Dr. Coester was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1995 and became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1997.

John Viola, M.D., a Pennsylvanian by birth, has made his home along the foothills of the Rockies since 1996 and joined the Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery, P.C., in the summer of 2000. Dr. Viola received his medical degree in 1989 from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and performed his internship and neurosurgical residency at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Viola was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery 2001 and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Douglas Beard, M.D., a native of Fort Collins, pursued medicine just as his physician father had before him. After concluding his medical studies at Creighton University in Omaha in 1986, Dr. Beard fulfilled his orthopaedic residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1991. Dr. Beard took his spine surgery fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans and Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. He joined the Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery, P.C., in the summer of 2008. Dr. Beard is certified by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
