Types of Diagnostic Testing Procedures
(Return to Table of Contents)
These testing procedures help your physician determine the nature of your medical condition. Each procedure uses a different kind of technology to produce an image of your brain or spine that the doctor can examine. Because the image from each of the technologies varies (showing, in effect, different kinds of pictures), the physician chooses the procedure or procedures that will give the best information for making a diagnosis in each case. Choices include x-ray, MRI, CT, myelography, or a combination of these.
A. X-ray
B. Computerized tomography scan (CT scan)
C. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
D. Electromyography (EMG)/Nerve conduction velocity (NCV)
E. Myelogram
